Singer Maynard James Keenan is throwing himself a 50th birthday party on May 14th, 2014, and he'll celebrate by performing with two of his three bands: A Perfect Circle and Puscifer. Also on the bill will be reunited early '90s alternative act Failure. The birthday party will take place at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, and so far Keenan's other act, Tool, does not seem to be on the guest list.

Keenan said, "Making it to the half century mark can be equal parts daunting and relieving. I figured I would remove the sting of officially being referred to as ‘Gramps’ by throwing a party and outlasting all of my rude friends."

  • A Perfect Circle recently released both a greatest hits set called Three Sixty and a concert boxed set titled A Perfect Circle Live: Featuring Stone and Echo.
  • A Perfect Circle guitarist Billy Howerdel told us that he and Keenan remain close even though A Perfect Circle hasn't always been active during the last nine years: "Things come in different waves, you know, like sometimes you're closer than others, and distance is definitely the great separator for us, but really working on this best-of and the box set, you know, the consistent part has always been Maynard and he's the real driving force in this band, and it wouldn't be what it is without him."
  • Keenan specifically asked that Failure, which features ex-A Perfect Circle guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen, perform at the event. He said, "This was the perfect opportunity to tick off one of my bucket list items in the form of a Failure reunion. What better birthday present could one ever hope for?"
  • Tickets for Keenan's party go on sale this Friday (December 6th) at 10:00 a.m. PT. VIP packages with preferred seating and commemorative items will become available on Thursday (December 5th), also at 10:00 a.m. PT.
