Sam Tinnesz X UNSECRET- “Never Stay Down”
Every once in a while an artist comes along who is blazing their own trail without any help and we can all consider ourselves lucky to be on board the wild ride. Last year Tinnesz released “Play With Fire” and I was immediately a massive fan. I remember seeing how intense his fans were online and thinking to myself HOW did I not hear about him sooner? Well do yourself a favor and don’t make the same mistake I did for so long. His latest single a collab with UNSECRET called “Never Stay Down” is the perfect blend of rock, blues, dance, shoegaze, all put together the only way Tinnesz can. Lyrically I also feel like the message in the song should be our mantra for 2021. Here’s to a big year for Tinnesz.
Vera Bloom- “Blue”
Having loved the last two singles Vera Bloom has released, “Breathe” and “Love Like Knives”, I couldn’t wait for her full length self titled EP to be released on Friday. The latest single from the EP, “Blue”, is perfect follow up to the last 2 singles. One thing I love about Bloom is she isn’t afraid to let the song speak for itself. Every song is different in it’s own way and her music takes you on a journey. When I listen to her music I get the vibe she makes music for no one else but herself, and that honesty in her music seems to be really catching on and I am here for it.
The Pierce Kingans- “Only By The Best”
I’ve always been a massive fan of band’s that hail from Canada. There’s just something in the water up there, especially that seems to be the case in Vancouver, where The Pierce Kingans hail from. Their latest release “Nobel Pierce Prize” is an EP full of such a unique sound of rock n roll done right. The song, “Only By The Best” is by far my favorite song of the EP. I love the low fi sound of the music while the lyrics are rather uplifting, and the tasteful use of the theremin comes in to round out the song in a way that would even give Dom Kreep a run for his money. When I listen to The Pierce Kingans, I LONG for live shows to return this year, and for this band to tour the states.
H.A.R.D.- “Elvis”
Once upon a time Thomas Sweat was the singer for a buzz staple, Light Beam Rider. I was always a massive fan of his voice and his songwriting style. His new project, H.A.R.D., is everything I love about Sweat and more. He still has the gravel in his voice, his songwriting sensibilities, and his honesty in his music. Their latest single “Elvis” expresses frustration at the industry in a playful but honest way. Lyrically I think the song is genius and it speaks to anyone who’s every been in the music industry. Hearing this band makes me thankful Sweat is still making music, and damn good music at that. I feel like 2021 is the year of H.A.R.D. and I will die on this hill.
Hounds- “Three Hits Of Acid”
Hailing from St.Louis, I feel lucky I got to see Hounds long before they are the band they are now. They’ve grown to a full on rock n roll experience and machine. Back when the world was normal, they came on my local buzz show and you could feel the energy in the room. Their latest single, “Three Hits Of Acid” is the sound of a band coming into their own and making their own music on their own terms. It’s hard to label the sound of their new single and I love that about it, it’s hounds, and they are a band that has proven if you keep pushing, the world will eventually catch on to what your doing. Come back live shows, and Hounds please come to Nashville.
