Upon Wings- “Eternal Way”
Upon Wings really topped themselves with their latest single, “Eternal Way”. When I listen to this song it takes me back to a time when bands weren’t afraid to be the band they wanted to be with no restrictions. Upon Wings channels vibes of Evanescence, Halestorm, and Heart all wrapped up in their own unique sound we’ve grown to know and love from the band. To top things off, Ralf Scheepers of Primal Fear lends his voice to the song and honestly I don’t think it can get much cooler than that. 2021 is the year of Upon Wings and I will die on this hill.
The Offspring- “This Is Not Utopia”
A few days back I was having a conversation with a friend of mine about our favorite Offspring records. I’ve always said I love “Smash” but to me “Ixnay on the Hombre” will always be my top favorite album of theirs. So you can imagine how stoked I was when The Offspring released their latest single, “This Is not Utopia”. This song takes me back to where the band was in 1996 and feels like it could have been on “Ixnay”. The full record is out now and if anyone needs me I’ll be digging through old boxes trying to find my size XL (it was the 90s) Ixnay shirt to start rocking again to celebrate and I am 100% serious.
Two Feet- “Flatline”
I remember first hearing Two Feet a few years back and I immediately became a fan. Every once in a while an artist comes along with a sound that’s hard to put in a box and Two Feet is one of those artists. It never feels intentional though, it feels honest and real and that’s one of my favorite things about him. An artist with a sound all his own, honest, and believes what he’s singing about. “Flatline” is a continuation of all those things and immediately 2021 is already way cooler with it in it.
Slothrust- “Strange Astronomy”
I’ll never forget the first time I heard Slothrust. The song “7:30 am” instantly became one of my favorite songs of all time and “Magnets Part 2” quickly followed as well. They’re a band who makes music on their own terms and they’ve been growing musically all along the way. Their latest single, “Strange Astrology” is a true testament to that. A band coming into their own and we are invited to peer inside and witness if we like, but regardless, Slothrust is going to do what they want anyways and I am HERE for it.
The Lagoons- “Sedated”
I remember a few years ago when the Lagoons said the words “California Kush ” in their song “California”, I immediately knew why I loved this band. I’ve always loved bands who do exactly what they want and say exactly what they want and honestly not a lot of bands could pull off a cool lyric like that. The Lagoons have a sound all their own that like the mentioned phrase above, also gives you a laid back feeling when you listen to them. Their latest single, “Sedated” is a testament to this band paving their own way and we’re just lucky enough to be on the ride with them.
