When I saw the track listing for the new Flickerstick album, “When We Were Young: Singles, B- Sides, and Rarities“, I was beyond stoked to see the track “International” had made it on the album. I never really was into the whole Napster thing, even though I do come from that generation, my family didn’t get the internet until I was almost into college. My friends, however, all had it and all used it religiously. One friend, who knew what a big Flickerstick fan I was, decided to surprise me with a burned CD of all these songs of theirs he got online in the summer of 2002.
I remember hearing “International” and immediately loving it and hoping it would be on their new studio album. The song, however, never ended up on any albums and I don’t recall ever seeing the band play it live. So needless to say I am pumped the song finally got a proper release. There’s a lot of renewed excitement around the band these days and it makes me happy to see such an underrated band finally getting the attention they deserve. Lead singer Brandin Lea came on my radio show a few months back and had mentioned how much he liked this song and so it only seems fitting I blast it tonight and ya’ll should turn it up, NOW.
