John Oates recorded a reggae version of the Hall & Oats hit, “Maneater”.
He says it’s how he originally wrote the song. He had the idea after spending time in Jamaica. When he played it for Daryl Hall, in the early 80’s, he said: “Daryl felt it wasn't really going to fit into what Hall & Oates were doing at the time. And he was right.”
Oates, now 75, recorded the new version in Kingston with a group of legendary reggae musicians. He said, “We went to this little, tiny studio in the middle of this little funky neighborhood, and we just jammed, and we played, and I took it back to Nashville and finished it.”
