The price of a dozen eggs rose about 85 cents between October and December of 2024, and this number may continue to rise. According to the USDA and CDC, new cases of bird flu have popped up in almost 25 states in January. The outbreak has resulted in farmers euthanizing birds to stop the spread. “Once one bird gets the flu, they all get taken out in short order,” Michael Swanson of Wells Fargo said. Since 2022, more than 135 million birds have been affected by the outbreak. The virus has even spread to cows, cats, skunks, and bears. While bird flu usually does not impact people, the FDA recommends cooking eggs to a safe temperature and avoiding cross-contamination. (Today)
