A study published in PeerJ found that insecticides could be helping certain weeds grow. Researchers discovered that plots treated with insecticides showed higher amounts of marestail, a weed that is particularly troubling for farmers. Why would insecticides help weeds? One theory is that the spray is impacting beetles and ants, which eat weed seeds and prevent them from spreading. Using pesticides more sparingly could allow weeds’ “natural enemies” to help farmers grow their crops. (Study Finds)
