I’m a car nerd and I have always loved bugs. Mainly because of Herbie The Love Bug. I’ve owned three Bugs(not new Beetles, the classics). VW is going through a little bit of a retro phase. Although they have discontinued production of the new Beetle-which started in 1945 with the first Type 1 and ended in July-they have introduced the all new electric Bus. Now they are hinting at making a new Dune Buggy. Technically VW never made a Dune Buggy. That was produced and made very popular by Bruce Meyers in 1964 as the Meyers Manx. Short story long, VW is introducing a new updated version of the popular Dune Buggy based on the popular VW Beetle. Powered by a 62 kWh battery, the all-electric “ID. Buggy” boasts a 155-mile range, 201 horsepower, a 7.2-second zero-to-60 mph time, and an electronically limited top speed of 99 mph—all the juice you’ll need for a day of blasting through sand dunes! Its just in concept phase, but I’m going to go out on a limb and say it won’t be long before its in production! Also, The Meyers Company still makes kits if you can’t wait for VW to produce their own version.
