In the mid 90s to early 00’s, one of the biggest bands in Canada were Matthew Good Band. Being a young aspiring drummer at the time I was a huge fan of the band, especially the style and sound of their drummer, Ian Browne. MGB had massive success in Canada with hit songs, music videos, platinum records, and huge tours. The band was starting to make a splash in the States as well with major label deal with Atlantic Records, and it seemed MGB were about to become as big in the States as they were in Canada.
“We had the deal with Atlantic and we’re even about to head out on our first US tour opening for Matchbox 20, but it just wasn’t meant to be”, Ian Browne said when he called into The Local Buzz on Sunday night to chat with me during my 2020 “Buzz IN” series.
The band split up shortly after the US release of their album “Beautiful Midnight” came out. Matthew Good became a solo artist, hiring touring musicians, and the rest of the band went their separate ways.
