Billy Joel has just announced his 80th show as part of his ongoing Madison Square Garden residency, set for May 14th — only days after his 73rd birthday. All told, the newly-added May concert will be Billy's 126th career appearance at the hallowed venue. In addition to playing his first post-covid Garden show last week, the “Piano Man” has since booked 2022 stadium gigs in Orlando, Florida and Houston, Texas.
During a recent appearance on The Chazz Palminteri Show podcast, Billy Joel said creating from the heart is the most important part of being an artist: “I never think about an audience. I never think about selling records. I don't think about what's gonna get played on the radio. I don't think about what's gonna sell a lotta 'units.' Now, that may sound very selfish, but, I'm very passionate about I like, and I think that goes into the music — the passion — and people hear that. I think if you writer as a human being for your own humanity, a lot of people can relate to that.”
