Last year I became a massive fan of Andrea Volpato’s guitar playing when I saw him and his old band New Candys play in Nashville. The show was at The East Room and I had came to see Trail of Dead, but New Candys, and Volpato in particular, stole the show for me. Every once in a while a musician comes along that just has their own signature style and sound of playing, so much so that you know its them the second you hear a note, and he is absolutely one of those rare musicians. I was bummed when I noticed Volpato had left New Candys, but only for a minute as I noticed on his Instagram he was playing guitar for the band MØAA as well and the moment I clicked on their first song, I was hooked.
On Friday MØAA dropped the haunting new song “Jaywalker” and it’s been on repeat every where I go ever since. The music sets the vibe with Volpato’s signature tone and sound circling MØAA’s unique voice and reflective lyrics. The song has a dark vibe but somehow leaves you feeling hopeful while listening to it, the lyrics seem to be about moving on from a bad situation, so maybe that’s why it feels that way. Whatever the meaning is behind this song, MØAA takes you on a journey with “Jaywalker”, a journey into the mind of an artist making music on their own terms. 2023 is the year of MØAA and I will die on this hill.
Now do yourself a favor and go turn this one up NOW.
